Featured Project | Camp Primary School

Project Overview

This project was to refresh an existing website for a local primary and nursery school. The main criteria was that it had to be simple for parents to use and for staff to keep up to date. School websites are primarily information based, so a greater emphasis was placed on site navigation and usability. It was important to ensure that busy parents using the site could find what they were looking for quickly.

We were invited in to take photos to use on the website with the brief being to reflect the friendly and welcoming nature of the school.

Once the website was built, training was provided for 3 members of staff who are able to update the page contents.

Ongoing support and development is provided by Pink Desk Studio.

Page Navigation

To help improve the speed of site navigation we identified the most frequently used pages and created large quick link buttons to them on the Homepage.

Example of Page Navigation

We also employed other techniques such toggles, large headings to aid page scanning, a global footer and colour to confirm which page is currently being viewed in the main menu structure.

Google Maps Integration

It was a requirement of the school to have a Google Map embedded on the website to allow prospective parents and other visitors to see where the school is located without the need to leave the school website.
This feature was implemented on the school Contact page.

Example of Google Maps Integration

Google Calendar Integration

The school use a Google Calendar to display such things as upcoming events, parent information and important school dates. The school can attach letters and other relevant information to the calendar and parents can then click links to copy the event details into their own online calendar.
This calendar was embeded in a webpage so that school staff can make changes to the live online calendar without the need to log into the website. Any updates to the live calendar are instantly seen on the school website Calendar page.

Example of Google Calendar Integration

Global Footer

To improve usability, page consistency and familiarity are important. We added school contact details and commonly used links, such as the school Calendar and Letters Home, to a global footer. This information appears in the same place on every page on the site and means that users always know where it is and have quick and easy access to it without having to search through the menu structure to find it.

Example of Global Footer

The Google Translate Website feature was added to improve usabilty for parents for who English is not their first language.

Responsive Design

All our websites are checked on desktop computer screens, laptops, tablets and mobile phones to ensure that user experience and website functionality is maintained no matter what device it is being viewed on.
